 EVEN THOUGH

Even though anybody may not want it for some reason...

Even though the Amazon may yet  get another big stabbing in its wounded heart...
Even though our Great Savanna and the majestic Canaima National Park get intervened...
Even though our tepuyes, sacred mountains, sentinels of Guayana don’t get over their shock...
Even though natives and farmers may be placed in danger...
Even though forests, rivers and savannah may disappear....
Even though the Orinoco Delta and Gulf of Paria may become another polluted “Lake of Maracaibo”......
Even though fish may die and national food  security may be put in jeopardy.....
Even though we may not be able to bath in the beaches and rivers cause of hydrocarbons spills and pollution.....

Even though our whole country may get crossed by dangerous pipeline networks, refineries, power plants, pumping systems,

terminals, towers, rigs, platforms...

Even though the spills may threaten the quality of water as well as sea life...

Even though earthquakes and hurricanes may convert oil and gas platforms  and pipelines into a big threat...

Even though damages to Nature may be irreversible...

Even though the polar ice caps are melting down...

Even though climate change may ruin life in the planet...

"The great gas pipeline will go forward”...so the Head of government has sentenced ...

“Even though anybody for some reason may not want it....., that gas pipeline must be built... Even though anybody might not want that gas pipeline towards Buenos Aires we’ve announced out of Ciudad Guayana, from the Caribbean to Buenos Aires, ...it must be built (...) That’s the proposal we’ve made for a South American Energy Cone, on the one hand Caracas-Buenos Aires, on the other an Andean Energy Cone,..cause we have to make that connection, I am certain (...) to accomplish a full energy structuring of the whole of South America”.

Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias, 24 november 2005, on the intended mega gas pipeline Venezuela-Brasil-Argentina,  Presidential Press Service / Maryinés Ladera Castillo.

The "Sociedad de Amigos en Defensa de la Gran Sabana" [Society of Friends in the Defense of the Grand Savanna] is a nonprofit civic association, organized in April 1986 for the preservation, conservation and defense of the ecological and cultural patrimony of the Grand Savanna, the Canaima National Park (Land of Tepuis), the Basin of the Caroni river, and of any other areas in the Guayanese Massif. We likewise join our efforts in the struggle to the respect the rights of the Indigenous Peoples who inhabit these ancestral territories and we support their efforts in defending them and their ancient culture.

We have joined this cause due to a profound love of nature and because of our conviction that the respect of the natural world and the laws of ecology is one of the primary means of fostering the well-being and survival of humanity. AMIGRANSA consists of a group of professionals from different disciplines, youths, students and a wide network of collaborators including residents of the Grand Savanna, scientists and other lovers of nature. The work of AMIGRANSA is strictly based on volunteer participation.
